MEDICARE PREMIUM RATES for 2012
Part A (hospital insurance) premium:
- Most people do not pay a premium with 40 work quarters.
If you have 30-39 quarters of employement - $248 per month. If you have less than 30 quarters - $451 per month.
Part B (doctor & outpatient insurance) premium:
- $99.90 per month if your income is below $85,000 (single tax filing status) or $170,000 (joint tax filing status).
- Up to $319.70 for high income beneficiaries. Click for info.
Part D income adjusted premium. If you make less than $85,000 ($170,000 joint filing) you will pay the Part D plan premium. If you have a higher income you will pay more each month. For high income beneficiaries:
- above $85,000 to $107,000 ($170,000 - $214,000) you will pay an additional $11.60.
- above $107,000 to $160,000 ($214,000 - $320,000) you will pay an additional $29.90.
- above $160,000 to $214,000 ($320,000 - $428,000) you will pay an additional $48.10.
- above $214,000 ($428,000) you will pay an additional $66.40
Medicare deductible and coinsurance:
Part A (inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, some home health care). For each benefit period of 60 days:
- $1156 Deductible for a hospital stay up to 60 days.
$289 per day for days 61-90. $578 per day for days 91-150 (lifetime reserve days). All costs for each day beyond 150 days.
Skilled Nursing Facility Coinsurance:
- $144.50 per day for days 21 - 100 of each benefit period.
All costs for each day beyone 100 days.
Part B (doctors, outpatient hospital, home health, DME):
- $140 annual deductible.
- 20% of the Medicare approved amount after deductible.
- 40% of the Medicare approved amount for outpatient mental health after deductible.
