The Part B premium can be greater than $99.90 for higher income beneficiaries based on their modified adjusted gross income. Social Security will use the income reported two years ago on your IRS income tax return to determine your premium. The list below shows the Part B premium amounts for 2012.
Filing Single:
$99.90 for income less than $85,000. $139.90 for income between $85,001 and $107,000. $199.80 for income between $107,001 and $160,000. $259.70 for income between $160,001 and $214,000. $319.70 for income above $214,000.
Filing Married:
$99.90 for income less than $170,000. $139.90 for income between $170,001 and $214,000. $199.80 for income between $214,001 and $320,000. $259.70 for income between $320,001 and $428,000. $319.70 for income above $428,000.
Married filing separately:
$99.90 for income less than $85,000. $259.70 for income between $85,001 and $129,000. $319.70 for income above $129,000.
WHAT IF MY INCOME GOES DOWN?
If you income goes down for any of the following reasons contact Social Security so they can refigure your payments.
-You married, divorced, or became widowed.
-You or your spouse stopped working or reduced your work hours.
-You or your spouse lost income-producing property due to a disaster or other event beyond your control.
-You or your spouse experienced a scheduled cessation, termination, or reorganization of an employer's pension plan.
-You or your spouse received a settlement from an employer or former employer because of the employer's closure, bankruptcy, or reorganization.
