SHORT TERM MEDICAL INSURANCE
Short Term Medical
High health insurance premiums got you down? Can't afford 50% of your income in premiums and out of pocket expenses? Don't qualify for a subsidy or don't need maternity and children's dental? YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO WITHOUT INSURANCE!
If you need insurance for just a short period of time or if you are undecided about a permanent plan give us a call and we'll get you on a temporary plan. These plans are not as comprehensive but the premium is generally reasonable.
Be aware that Short Term Medical plans are not subject to the same rules and regulations as are permanent health insurance plans. Temporary policies do not cover pre-existing conditions. Temporary health insurance is also not considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act (also called Obamacare), and even if you enroll in and maintain temporary coverage you may NOT be exempt from the Shared Responsibility Payment (tax) that may otherwise apply for not having qualifying health insurance.
However, you can purchase a Short Term Medical plan at any time of the year, you do not have to wait until open enrollment!
BREAKING NEWS - November 2016
The government, in it's infinite wisdom, is afraid that many people will buy short term insurance instead of the ACA "0bamacare" plans. Therefore, they have decided that, beginning April 1, 2017, short term plans can be no longer than 90 days. Previously, plans were available up to 364 days.
Interim Coverage from Blue Cross:
A short-term solution to keep you protected.
If you don’t have health insurance or are between plans, consider Interim Coverage. It’s a short-term or temporary medical expense plan that can offer protection for up to 90 days if you:
• Don’t have another affordable health insurance option
• Start a new job and there’s a waiting period before your benefits begin
• Enrolled in an annual plan, but the effective date isn’t until the next month
